Tests funded for under-16s; myopia control from £32 a month · 30 minutes

Eye tests for children from age three, run by an optometrist who does little else on those days. Funded for under-16s, with myopia control when short sight starts early.

What is included

  • Charts with pictures and shapes for children who cannot read letters yet
  • A check of how the eyes work together and focus up close
  • Eye health checked with a hand-held light, no chin rest needed
  • A written note for school if your child needs to sit near the board
  • Frames for under-16s from our children’s range, funded where eligible

Around one in five children has a vision problem that nobody has noticed, because children assume everyone sees the way they do. A test takes half an hour and is funded for every child under sixteen.

A clinic built around children

Priya runs the children’s clinic on Tuesday and Saturday mornings. The room has a picture chart, a shapes chart and a basket of things to look at. A parent stays in the room the whole time.

Short sight that starts early

If your child’s short sight is getting worse every year, we can slow it down. Myopia-control spectacle lenses, soft contact lenses and low-dose eye drops each cut progression by roughly a third to a half in trials. Priya will explain the options, the costs and what the evidence says, and you decide.

Frames that survive a playground

Our children’s frames are flexible, have spring hinges and come with a free repair or replacement under the funded voucher scheme. Every pair is fitted by hand, and we check it again at no charge whenever it starts to slip.

“Our son hated his last eye test. Priya had him reading shapes off the chart within five minutes and he asked if he could come back.”

What people ask us first

How old does my child need to be?

We test from age three. Earlier if you are worried about a squint or a family history of lazy eye; ring and we will see them.

My child cannot read yet. Can they still be tested?

Yes. We use pictures and shapes, and some checks need no answers at all.

What is myopia control?

Special spectacle lenses, contact lenses or eye drops that slow down how fast short sight gets worse in a growing child. Priya will talk you through whether it is worth it for your child.
