About us
An independent practice on 14 Quillan Row, since 2009.
Velloway is owned by the two optometrists who work in it. There is no head office, no sales targets and no commission on glasses, which is the only structural reason a test can end with “your glasses are fine”.
You see the same optometrist each visit unless you ask not to, and your scans, photographs and notes stay here so the next test can be compared with the last one.
The team
Five people, and who does what
Every clinical member of the team is registered, and their names are on the consulting-room doors.

Hannah Pellow
Optometrist. Co-owner. OCT and dry eye
Qualified in 2004, bought the practice with Tomasz in 2009. Runs the dry-eye clinic and reads every OCT scan the practice takes.

Tomasz Wrona
Optometrist. Co-owner. Contact lenses
Fits more contact lenses than anyone else in the building, including the difficult ones: torics, multifocals, and eyes that have given up on lenses before.

Priya Anand
Optometrist. Children’s clinic and myopia
Joined in 2018 to start the children’s clinic. Runs Tuesday and Saturday mornings for under-16s and manages myopia control.

Dispensing optician. Varifocals and children’s frames
Measures and fits every pair that leaves the practice, and glazes most of them in the workshop at the back.

Practice manager. Bookings, funded-test paperwork, plans
The voice on the phone. Knows who qualifies for a funded test and will tell you before you book.

What is in the consulting rooms
- A 3D OCT scanner in each room, so every private test includes a scan.
- A widefield retinal camera that photographs most of the retina through a normal pupil.
- Air-free pressure testing. No puff of air.
- A children’s room with picture charts, shapes and a basket of things to look at.
- A glazing workshop at the back, where most lenses are cut and fitted.
Can everyone get in?
Yes. The entrance is step-free, there is a hearing loop at the desk, and the consulting rooms take a wheelchair with the chair swung aside.
For people who cannot leave home unaided, we do home visits with portable equipment. Ring the practice and Martin will arrange it.
