About the practice
Velloway is an independent practice on 14 Brantfield Row, owned by the two optometrists who work in it. There are no sales targets here, which is the only structural reason a test can end with "your glasses are fine".
Who you will see
Two GOC-registered optometrists and one dispensing optician, plus a practice manager who does the paperwork so the clinical staff do not. You see the same optometrist each visit unless you ask not to.
The chart on the wall
The chart in the consulting room is a logMAR chart, not the Victorian Snellen one. Its lines step by 0.1 log units, five letters to a line at every size, and equal spacing between letters relative to their size — so a line is a real measurement rather than a guess weighted by how many letters happen to be on it.
This website is set on that chart. Every size on every page is one of its lines, the fraction is printed beside the heading, and the size and the fraction agree because both come from the same file.
Accessibility
Step-free entrance, a hearing loop at the desk, and consulting rooms that take a wheelchair with the chair swung out. Home visits for patients who cannot leave the house are arranged through the NHS domiciliary service — ring and we will start it.
