Contact lenses
A contact lens sits on the tear film, not on the eye, so a fitting is a measurement of the surface and the film as much as of the prescription. It is a separate appointment from the sight test and it costs £35, refunded against your first three months if you go ahead.
Nobody orders lenses on the first visit. You wear a trial pair for a week and tell us what the evenings were like.
What the fitting measures
Corneal curvature, horizontal visible iris diameter, tear break-up time, lid tension and the state of the lid margins. A dry eye that nobody looked for is the commonest reason a lens is abandoned in the first month.
Plans, and how to leave them
Monthly plans start at £14 for a monthly-replacement lens and £24 for a daily. Both include the aftercare appointments and any refit inside the first three months.
Cancel in writing with a month's notice. There is no minimum term, no cancellation charge, and no clause that turns a plan into a subscription you cannot see the end of.
Sleeping, swimming, and the rules that matter
Do not sleep in a lens that was not prescribed for it, and keep lenses out of pools, showers and lakes: acanthamoeba keratitis is rare, and the reason it is worth avoiding is that it is not a mild illness. Everything else is negotiable.
